To Whom It May Concern:
In light of the religious bigotry that you have expressed in your recent
statement concerning Mormonism, I want to retract the response I made to your
survey. I do not want my name or that of my campaign associated in any way with
such remarks.
Sincerely,
Tom Tancredo
Born to second generation Italian parents, Tom Tancredo was a Roman Catholic until 20 years ago, when he became a Presbyterian.
Tom Tancredo was appointed to a Department of Education post in 1981, and served in the Congress from
1999
to 2008.
To his credit, To
m Tancred
o is
conservative on social issues. He is anti-
abortion,
anti-
homosexual marriage and
anti-embryonic stem cell research, although his opposition appears to have involved
supporting, as opposed to authoring, bills.
But To
m Tancred
o lacks gravitas, has neither foreign policy nor executive
experience, his claims of being strong on defense is compromised by having
avoided the draft as a young man, and the retraction of his testimony
in favor of defending a cult raises questions about his judgment.
Our ratin
g of his candidacy for President was lowered from
C
to
D after
his endorsement of
Mitt Romney, and will remain so
should Tancred
o attempt another presidential bid in 2012.
