Status: Having answered our questions, Tom Tancredo
retracted it, issued a
press
release condemning our exposure of
the
cultic nature of
Mormonism, and subsequently withdrew from the Presidential race after endorsing
Mitt Romney.

To Whom It May Concern:
In light of the religious bigotry that you have expressed in your recent
statement concerning Mormonism, I want to retract the response I made to your
survey. I do not want my name or that of my campaign associated in any way with
such remarks.
Sincerely,
Tom Tancredo
Born to second generation Italian parents, Tom Tancredo was a practicing
Roman Catholic until about 20 years ago, when he became an evangelical
Presbyterian. Appointed to a Department of Education post in 1981, he has been
serving in the Congress
since 1999.
To his credit, Tom Tancredo has been married to one wife and is
conservative on social issues. He is anti-
abortion,
anti-
homosexual marriage and
anti-embryonic stem cell research, although his opposition appears to have involved
supporting, as opposed to authoring, bills.
But Tom Tancredo lacks gravitas, has neither foreign policy nor executive
experience, his claims of being strong on defense is compromised by having
avoided the draft as a young man, and the retraction of his testimony
in favor of standing up for a cult raises questions about his judgment.
Our rating of the Tom Tancredo candidacy
for President is a
