Sarah Palin - Approval Rating
(continued
from
Sarah Palin Pro-Life)
Sarah Palin is the wife of a former fisherman and a one-time fisherwoman herself (see
Sarah Palin Biography). Sarah Palin
's
political ascent was meteoric, from blue collar roots to Alaska's youngest-ever Governor. In 2008, Sarah Palin also
became the first-ever female Republican Vice Presidential nominee.
As Governor, Sarah Palin's approval rating topped 80%, the highest approval rating among all gubernatorial approval
ratings. Sarah Palin's high approval rating was largely due to delivering on her promise to reform
Alaska's corruption-ridden government.
Commendably, Sarah Palin led her reform by example. Upon inauguration,
she disposed of the Governor's jet and chef. As mayor, she cut her own salary.
As ethics commissioner, she quit her lucrative job to protest a colleague's ethics violation.
She also has bona fide
pro-life
credentials. Unlike
Mitt Romney, who
had his anti-
abortion
epiphany just prior to setting his sights on the White House, Sarah Palin has
been staunchly
pro-life since her
Christian childhood.
As the 2008 Republican Vice Presidential candidate, however, she deserved
mixed ratings. Her acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention was
stellar and her Vice Presidential debate performance was acceptable.
But her television interviews were dismal and revealed not only her ignorance on
many key issues but also the lack of presidential intellect.
Also troubling were her exaggerations and half-truths. Having "put" the
Governor's jet on eBay was technically true but what she implied by it, wasn't.
The infamous bridge to nowhere wasn't built because she said, "No
thanks," but because Congress stopped funding it after the initial $100 million,
which she kept for Alaska.
What made those exaggerations and half-truths confounding was that they were
unnecessary. A Governor is expected to win as much money as possible from the
federal government for her constituents, and there is no issue with selling a
jet through a jet broker.
Her statements became issues for the media because they turned out to be
misleading half-truths. And they became an issue for us because they showed her
to be relying on political strategists
instead of
Jesus, who is the Truth.
She should realized that a hockey mom surrendered to
Christ and His ways can bring Him glory. A hockey mom
who relies on
political strategists and their ways won't, and given her declared
Christianity, even risks dishonoring Him.
Our presidential candidacy rating of Sarah Palin
remains a
C-, pending evidence
that the Lord is blessing her with presidential intellect, and that before she
is a politician, she is a
Christian - one
who is
unafraid to testify about her
Savior when asked (see
Personal Faith Testimony).
