Paul Ryan - Religion (11-20)

Paul Ryan Religion(continued from Paul Ryan Catholic)

What does his religion mean to Paul Ryan and how does his religion shape Paul Ryan's political beliefs? Paul Ryan has yet to respond to our questions below about his religion. Over the years, however, Paul Ryan has made statements that reveal details about his religion and beliefs.

For example, in his speech accepting Mitt Romney's invitation to be his vice presidential running mate, Paul Ryan stated:

"Our rights come from nature and God, not from government." (Paul Ryan, August 11, 2012)

While some religions revere nature, according to the Bible, our rights come only from God, not from nature, which God commanded us to "subdue" and over which to have "dominion":

"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." (Genesis 1:27-28)

During a speech at Georgetown University earlier in 2012, Paul Ryan stated:

"The Holy Father Himself, Pope Benedict, has charged governments, communities and individuals running up high debt levels are quote, 'living at the expense of future generations.'" (Paul Ryan, Georgetown University, April 26, 2012)

Jesus commanded us to not call anyone on earth our spiritual "father," let alone "Holy Father":

"Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven." (Matthew 23:9)
