Do Christians Believe in Global Warming?

Do Christians Believe in Global Warming?"Why do you Christians not believe in global warming?"

Some Christians do deny global warming even though the polar caps are melting, the rising sea level is drowning island nations, and unprecedented heat waves are driving apocalyptic fires. They say global warming is a fiction, that things on earth will get better, and even that they will make things better to prepare the earth for Jesus' return.

But Christians who read the Bible not only believe but also expected and understand the context of global warming and all other "troubles" that Jesus said will take place as things get worse, not better, before "the end":

"But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows" (Mark 13:7-8). "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come" (Matthew 24:7-14).

"Wars" abound across the world today between gangs (e.g., Chicago), drug cartels (e.g., Mexico), tribes (e.g., Africa), religions (e.g., Sunni vs. Shia Muslims), kingdoms and nations, including America, which is stuck in Afghanistan in the longest war in our history. Reports of strong "earthquakes," hurricanes, cyclones are so frequent now that they no longer shock, while "famines" (e.g., Chad, Madagascar, Yemen, North Korea) and "pestilences" (e.g., SARS, MERS, Coronavirus) are indeed in "various places." Eighty percent of today's persecuted religious believers are Christians, more of whom have been killed for the "sake" of Jesus' "name" in the last 100 years than in the preceding 1,900 years combined. "False prophets" have risen up to "deceive many" from pulpits and on television, "lawlessness" indeed abounds, "the love of many" has grown "cold," and the "gospel" is reaching the remotest jungle tribes. Bible-believing Christian recognize global warming as God's warning.

What can we do to stop global warming?

The majority of global warming pollutants are generated by the third world, whose hungry people prioritize getting their next meal over protecting the environment. China alone burns more coal than the rest of the world combined, has permanently poisoned its own lakes and soil with heavy metals, and doesn't care about other nation's environments.

Is the earth then doomed?

The earth can be healed only one way, not by its inhabitants, but by its Creator, who told Christians to humble ourselves, pray and seek His face, and turn from our sins:

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

What if we don't do that?

"Then the end will come" (Matthew 24:7-14) when Jesus - the "Son of Man" - returns: "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world... Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:31-34, 41)
