"You think Christians are better than [Mormons]? Just check
out your preachers on TV!!"
You are most likely referring to the modern false preachers and false prophets. Contrast the words,
attire and the actions of modern false preachers and false prophets against what
the
Bible taught about false
preachers and false prophets.
Jesus chose to be homeless (
"And Jesus said to him, 'Foxes have holes and birds
of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.'" (Luke
9:58)) and the Apostle Paul was poor at times (
"Not that I speak in regard to need,
for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be
abased, and I know how to abound. Every where and in all things I have learned
both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need."
(Philippians 4:9-10)).
The Bible does make provision for preachers to be paid a wage, and for
those who teach the Bible well to be worthy of “double honor” (
"Let the elders
who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in
the word and doctrine. For the Scripture says, ‘You shall not muzzle an ox while
it treads out the grain,’ and, ‘The laborer is worthy of his wages.’" (1 Timothy
5:17-18))
But nowhere does the Bible say that preacher
s should get rich off the poor.
Christians, including preacher
s, are to share as per their need (
“Now
all who believed were
together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods,
and divided them among all, as anyone had need.” (Acts 2:44-45), not to have
the rich keep taking more.
The people in gleaming suits and jewelry who beg for money from pulpits are not true
servants of God, but the fals
e prophets
whom
Jesus warned about:
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s
clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves." (Matthew 7:15).
There are many good preacher
s who live modestly
and serve God faithfully, often in obscurity. But even they are not “better”
than anyone else,
Mormons included. All humans fail to meet
God’s standard of
perfect holiness and are therefore sinners
bound for hell unless we believe
that Jesus died to pay the
capital
punishment required for our sins.
But biblical Christianity is better than Mormonism - the belief system. In fact,
it isn’t just 'better'. One is the truth
written by God using humans as we use
pens; the other is a falsehood started by fals
e prophets.
