Does the Bible prohibit gun control or promote gun control?
The Bible does not prohibit gun control. The right to bear arms stems from the Second Amendment to our Constitution, not the Bibl
e,
which states otherwise.
Therefore, the right to bear arms is Constitutional, not Biblical.
As societies change, so do the applicability of man-made laws. The
Constitutional right
to bear arms was intended for a society with neither a standing army
nor police force and whose citizens needed guns to hunt for food and to
deter invasion.
Today, America has a standing army, layers of police force and few if
any of its citizens have to hunt with guns for subsistence. Yet, thanks
to a Biblical adherence to a 230-year old, man-made law, our country is now flooded with more guns than adults,
30,000 are shot to death every year, including by criminals using assault machine guns that even the police do
not carry.
Today's gu
n laws in America have more to do with the power and the politicians'
fear of the gu
n lobby and the adherence of its members to a
sport than with logic, the intent of the Constitutional right to bear arms or the
Bible.
