What are some of John McCain's other religious beliefs?

John McCain's story is poignant but the nativity story is only in Matthew and Luke (Mark and John commence when Jesus is already an adult), so John McCain could not have read the nativity story in "Mark ... and John" in Vietnam. More relevantly, John McCain is unlikely to have made this statement if he is reading his Bible (see New Testament written when?).
What are John McCain's beliefs about Islam?
John McCain has expressed his beliefs about Islam:
"I admire the Islam. There's a lot of good principles in it. I think one of the great tragedies of the 21st century is that these forces of evil have perverted what's basically an honorable religion."
Should a Christian "admire" a system of beliefs that denies the cross and the proof of Jesus' resurrection, and call such a system of beliefs, "honorable"? And speaking of "perverted," shouldn't the Islam vs. Christianity difference be clearly pointed out (see Christian God)?
