While speaking at a liberal "church" in 2006, then Senator Barack Obama
declared that America is no longer a Christian nation:
"Given the increasing diversity of America's
populations, the dangers of sectarianism are greater than ever. Whatever we once
were, we are no longer a Christian nation, at least not just. We are also a
Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, and a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a
nation of non-believers."
The sad reality is that Barack Obama is right. While our founding fathers wanted us to
remain a Christian nation, we are no longer one.
Americans who identify themselves as Christian are a decreasing percentage of the
population and a decreasing percentage of the self-declared Christians adhere to
the Christianity of the Bible.
Under President Barack Obama, Christianity most likely will suffer greater
attacks in the name of promoting religious diversity and tolerance, and
Obama
presidency may accelerate the arrival of the days when Biblical expression of
Christianity will be considered hate crimes.
However, persecution of Christianity, while painful, will not be new and
likely will have a positive effect on the church in America as it will purify
the body of Christ and identify its true members.
