Christian Vote
What exactly is the 'Christian vote'? According to the media, Christian vote includes the vote
s of the 77% of
voter-aged Americans who identify themselves as Christians;
52% are Protestants and 25% are Roman Catholics.
Since the Christ
ian vo
te comprises the majority of voter-aged Americans, if it
voted as a bloc, it would in theory determine the outcome of every
political race, presidential elections included (note that the Protestant bloc's
52% on its own comprises an absolute majority of all American
voters).
In reality, the Christ
ian vo
te is deeply divided in this election. The "anti-Democrat"
vote favors
John
McCain despite reservations, while the "anti-McCain"
vote, led by James Dobson of
Focus on
the Family advocates boycotting this year's
election, or voting for a candidate who already has dropped out of the race,
like
Mike Huckabee.
There is even a small but growing "anti-both Democrats and Republicans" segment that
favors an
independent
Presidential candidate and/or even the formation of a new political party.
