Christian Vote 2008
Christian vote includes the vote
s of the 77% of
vote
r-aged Americans who identify themselves as Christian
s;
52% are
Protestants and 25% are Roman Catholics.
Since the Christian vote comprises the majority of voter-aged Americans, if it
voted as a bloc, the Christian vote would in theory determine the outcome of every
political race, Presidential elections included (note that the Protestant bloc's
52% comprises an absolute majority of American
voters on its own).
In reality, the Christian vote is deeply divided in this election. The "anti-Democrat"
Christian
vote favors
John
McCain despite reservations, while the "anti-McCain"
Christian vote, led by James Dobson of
Focus on
the Family advocates boycotting this year's
election, or voting for a candidate who already has dropped out of the race,
like
Mike Huckabee.
There is even a small but growing "anti-both Democrats and Republicans" segment that
favors an
independent
Presidential candidate and/or even the formation of a new political party.
