Joe Biden has served in the US Senate for
36 years, having won his seat
in
Delaware at 29 years of age. Over the years, Joe Biden has chaired the Senate Committee
on the Judiciary and is the current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign
Relations.
Senator
Joe Biden is well-spoken, has gravitas and
has had extensive exposure to
foreign policy issues, which is one of the reasons why
Barack Obama chose Joe Biden as his
Vice Presidential
running mate.
But foreign policy exposure is different from foreign policy judgment. Joe
Biden
's support for invading Iraq and partitioning the
country while opposing the troop "surge" have all proven flawed.
Joe Biden first ran for the Presidency in 1988 but withdrew after succumbing to
accusations of plagiarizing from a British politician's speech. Joe Biden
's second Presidential run in
2008 failed to spark enthusiasm or media rating
s and he withdrew after the Iowa caucus.
On social issues,
Joe Biden is a
self-professed Roman Catholic but opposes
Catholic social
values.
He is pro-embryonic stem cell research, pro-
abortion, opposes a
Constitutional ban on
homosexual marriage,
and admits that
his beliefs are not
Biblical.
Our rating of his Presidential candidacy is a
D+. Despite his experiences, Joe Biden is
neither the reformer Washington needs nor
the leader America needs today.
