What exactly is the faith of Herman Cain and how does faith shape Herman
Cain
's platform? Herman Cain spoke about his faith during an interview
after
the Republican debate in Nevada on October 11, 2011:
"Faith has been a big part of my life, all of my
life. I joined the Baptist Church at the age of 10. It's the same church my
parents joined in the mid-1940s." (Herman Cain, October 11, 2011)
The
"Baptist Church" Herman Cain is referring to is Antioch Baptist Church
North, a predominantly African-American National Baptist church in Atlanta founded 133 years ago by former slaves.
Continuing about this church and faith, which is always a gift from God, Herman Cain reflected:
"Our parents took us to church. They were involved
in the church. We got involved in the church. As I got older, my faith grew...
You have to develop your own level of faith as you get older. It has always been a big part of my life."
(Herman Cain, October 11, 2011)
After attending churches in the communities where his family lived while he progressed through his career,
Herm
an Ca
in eventually returned to Atlanta and to Antioch Baptist Church North,
now a 14,000 member mega-church, where he has been an Associate Minister since
2002, as he told Christianity Today on March 11, 2011:
"I was licensed in 2002. Like most ministers, I felt
called to preach the word of God and minister to the least, the last, and the
lost, and minister to His people. In addition to delivering sermons, I'm very
involved with the scholarship ministry."
